Tom Morello Swings His Hammer
Working with producer Brendan O'Brien (Bob Dylan, Stone Temple Pilots), Morello says he went beyond his usual electric guitar setup, picking up vintage axes and amplifiers to meld the band's rock with what Cornell called his new "Seventies funk and R&B-flavor vocals." "Chris has never sung better then on this record," Morello assures. "It's got a bit of the blue-eyed soul singer going on. It's basically like Led Zeppelin meets Earth, Wind and Fire."
Along with "Wide Awake," some of the twelve songs in the can for Revelations include the title track, the "jammy" "Original Fire" and "Moth," which Morello describes as an "anthemic, Wagnerian, heavy opus."

New Audioslave LP: 'Led Zeppelin Meets Earth, Wind & Fire'
In the words of Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello, the rock and roll group's forthcoming third opus is an "ass-kicker."
As fans might expect, the still-untitled LP (Morello said the band's toying with the idea of naming it Revelations) is bursting at the seams with the kind of brutal riff rock that's become Audioslave's trademark. But at the same time, they've woven deep '70s funk and soul grooves with heavy guitars, "and it's a pretty potent combination," he said.
When the album drops (Morello dispelled reports that it will surface in June), expect the end result to be "really unique" and "as hard-rockin' an album as we've ever made," the guitarist said.
"If you want your ass kicked, you've come to the right place," he added. "And you may have the opportunity to shake that ass too."

AUDIOSLAVE'S OUT OF EXILE DEBUTS NO. 1 IN THE U.S., TOPS THE CHARTS AROUND THE WORLD
Audioslave, the supergroup comprised of former Soundgarden leader Chris Cornell and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Tim C. and Brad Wilk, is back in a big way this week with their new CD, "Out of Exile."
The album, produced by Rick Rubin and released on Interscope/Epic Records May 24th, debuted this week on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #1. It also debuted at #1 in Mexico, #1 in Norway, #1 in New Zealand, #2 in Brazil, #3 in Ireland, #3 in Australia and #5 in the U.K. The album bowed Top 5 around the rest of the world as well.
"We've made an album we're really proud of and having the No. 1 record in the country is amazing. Do not doubt it: Our fans rule," Morello said.
"Out of Exile" is Audioslave's follow up to its highly successful 2002 self-titled debut album, which has sold over 5 million records worldwide.
The first single from "Out Of Exile," "Be Yourself," was #1 at both the Rock and Alternative radio charts, where it sat for four consecutive weeks. The current single, "Your Time Has Come," continues its climb up the Modern Rock, Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts
With such other songs as "Doesn't Remind Me," "Man or Animal" and "Heaven's Dead," Audioslave has delivered a strong and cohesive sophomore release, that finds the group truly developing into a rock band that has proven itself worthy of all the anticipatory buzz that preceded it while it maps out its own place in rock history.
The group is currently touring Europe, where they are performing to sold-out audiences across the continent.
On May 6, Audioslave became the first American rock group to play Cuba, attracting the largest crowd to attend a concert by an American artist in the communist country's history. About 60,000 rock-starved fans cheered, cried and sang along as Audioslave made rock history.
Fans wearing Audioslave t-shirts and those of other American rock bands were among the enormous crowd at the free outdoor concert at Havana's La Tribuna Antimperialista José Martí. Thousands of fans, some waving flags, even an American one, jumped up and down in unison as the band rocked on. The nearly two-and-a-half hour concert of 26 songs was the longest of Audioslave's career.
Audioslave brought its show to its hometown of Los Angeles on May 18, shutting down Hollywood Blvd. for a free concert and television performance on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live.
In front of an exuberant audience numbering close to 10,000, Audioslave performed their two current chart-topping singles "Be Yourself" and "Your
Times Has Come" for airing on the Kimmel show.
After the television performance was complete, the band performed a 40-minute set for the large crowd that included songs from Audioslave's
upcoming "Out Of Exile" album, their self-titled debut as well as Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine tracks.

Audioslave Turn To Rage/Soundgarden Producer For Third LP |
"With Out of Exile only seven months old and 'Doesn't Remind Me' still on Billboard's Modern Rock Singles chart, Audioslave have just released the album's fourth single, 'Out of Exile.'
'That song in particular is just a very unique combination of musical influences,' singer Chris Cornell said at the VH1 Big in '05 Awards. 'If I would've seen it on paper I would've never thought it worked. It's still got a big rock riff, but it ends up sounding sort of like a Civil War ballad at times.'
The song includes some of the most personal lyrics on the album. 'On the altar of a sunrise/ Was a wedding in the waves,' Cornell sings. 'And inside her shone a young light/ From her labor I was saved.'
'I was writing the lyrics for the record when my wife was pregnant with her," Cornell said pointing to his 14-month old daughter. "So that's kind of what the song is about, about me turning my life around and her and my wife helping me.'"

The Audioslave 'Web-Guy' Goes To Long Beach |
"Tom came in and his smile instantly warmed the room. I was not nervous around him at all and he was very down to earth, pleasant and very supportive of the ideas presented to him. I also met Dan, Audioslave's manager who was just as nice and down to earth. He thanked me for all of my hard work and said something along the lines of Audioslaved.com dwarfing the official site. It made me very proud to have my work recognized and very thankful that he was aware of what we were doing at 'Slaved'. Tom talked about Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden during a live release saying, 'Scream for me Long Beach!!' He said they should say that during the show. He also asked me if there was anything I wanted to hear, I picked 'The Worm'. He said he would be sure to dedicate it to me.
As we talked, he brought in Sean (Audioslave's Photographer/Videographer) and joked with him about not getting me the concert photos for the official site's Gallery. Sean went back to his car, got his laptop, and came back so he could give me some of the tour photos. We talked about setting something up so he could get them to me more easily. The meeting was starting to wrap up and Tom asked us if I was coming to soundcheck -- I replied 'Sure!'"

Drummer Brad Wilk Speaks Out |
"Audioslave is much more than a supergroup or a merger of Rage Against The Machine and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. They’re a musical powerhouse, for sure, but they also have a social conscience and work consistently for change and to open people’s minds.
NUVO caught up with drummer Brad Wilk during a stop in Philadelphia for a telephone interview.
NUVO: There’s so much contradictory press about the band, and so much speculation about the origins of the band.
Wilk: What do you mean?
NUVO: Well, I’m looking at this one Web site and they’re saying stuff like 'Cornell stipulated he would not join the band if they were going to be a political machine' —
Wilk: That’s where the problem lies. The three of us never wanted Chris to join the band to be in a political band. We wanted Chris in his own right. He’s an amazing lyricist. He’s not joining Rage Against the Machine; it’s an entirely new band. That kind of stuff is just speculation in the press. The honest-to-God truth is that you have four guys in a room creating music. We’re not worried about that or answering to that. We have one thing, and that’s making music that we love and being true to our fans..."

Audioslave Crank Out A Song A Day, Explore New Sounds! |
"Audioslave have been performing some of this fresh material — which will be recorded and whittled into the band's third LP — live. "We've been rotating about five that we're comfortable enough to play live," Morello said of tracks including 'One and the Same' and 'Sound of a Gun.' 'We've been playing one a night,' he explained.
'We were home in Los Angeles in our rehearsal studio, writing the songs like we do with everybody in the room, with just a free exchange of ideas,' Morello added. 'There's a great deal of confidence we have in each other and in anybody's ability to bring in an idea that will blossom into the next Audioslave song. These songs came together fairly quickly because we write on sort of a song-a-day pace. It feels like a very special and unique thing with this band that we can have, at the end of a day, pretty much a complete song together — with riffs, verse, chorus, melodies, guitar solos all pretty much there.'"

Audioslave Get Ready For New Album |
"Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell has revealed that the band finished writing all of the material for its third album. The announcement was made during October 29th performance at New York's Madison Square Garden. The group then played one of the tracks that'll make the LP. Cornell said the song was still untitled, and even had its lyrics written down on the stage so he wouldn't forget them. 'I only wrote them last week,' he said."

Audioslave Madison Square Garden Review |
"...Unlike the '03 shows Audioslave played to support their debut record, where the band only played new tunes, at this show the set was nicely fattened with choice cuts from Rage and Soundgarden.
'We didn't do those songs on the first tour because we were making the point that we didn't have to play the music from our previous bands to be Audioslave. This time out we said, 'Why not?''
The 'why not' attitude led the band into the great grunge oldie 'Hunger Strike,' which Cornell wrote when he was lead singer with Temple of the Dog. On that one, drummer Wilk sang backup.
Various Rage songs were in the set. Most notably were the instrumental 'Bulls on Parade' that segued into "Sleep Now in the Fire.'
As for the Soundgarden material, early in the concert 'Rusty Cage' was tops and the encore cover of 'Black Hole Sun,' which Cornell performed as a solo accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, roused the house to a powerful singalong.
If the set and performance demonstrated nothing else, it was that Audioslave has the talent and potential to exceed the accomplishments of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine.'..."

Slaving Away, Oklahoma City Review |
"If one was to hear them play 'Spoonman' or 'Outshined,' he or she would swear that these were original Audioslave songs and not Soundgarden songs. They put their hearts into playing these songs instead of playing them because the audience expected them.
When the band played 'Killing In The Name,' the entire audience was on its feet on orders from Cornell. He made the crew turn the lights on in the arena so he could make sure that everyone was standing before the song started."

Audioslave Promise 'A Lot More Music' |
Chris Cornell and crew have written several new tunes this summer, some of which will debut on the road this fall.
"What we're hoping to do is follow in the footsteps of some of our favorite bands, like the Beatles, and make more music and not have it be two or three years between albums," guitarist Tom Morello explained. "We want to make a lot of music. We enjoy writing music, recording it, putting it out and touring. We're going to try and make that cycle shorter so there's a lot more Audioslave music."

AUDIOSLAVE'S OUT OF EXILE DEBUTS NO. 1 IN THE U.S., TOPS THE CHARTS AROUND THE WORLD |
Audioslave, the supergroup comprised of former Soundgarden leader Chris Cornell and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Tim C. and Brad Wilk, is back in a big way this week with their new CD, "Out of Exile."

AUDIOSLAVE TO ROCK CUBA |
Super group Audioslave are set to become the first U.S. rock band to perform outdoors in Cuba, sharing the stage with their Cuban music counterparts.
The group, currently touring in support of their upcoming sophomore release, "Out of Exile," accommodated their touring schedule to be able to give a special performance May 6 at La Tribuna in Havana, Cuba. The concert will be free and open to the Cuban public. In the past, the open air venue has accommodated up to 1 million people.
The performance, the first open air concert by a U.S. rock band in Cuba, was authorized by the U.S. Treasury Department and the Instituto Cubano de la Musica. The effort represents an opportunity to share with the Cuban youth the free expression of music that embodies rock and roll.
"Kids are the same all over the world, and we are extremely proud and excited to bring rock 'n' roll to the youth of Cuba. It's all about the music, and free expression of music crosses all barriers. This is a rare opportunity, and we are grateful and honored to have the support of both countries," said Audioslave.
The band will be in Havana May 4-7, interacting with the Cuban youth and the Cuban musical artists. Interscope/Epic as well as Done and Dusted, a U.K. film production company, are producing the event with the Instituto Cubano de la Musica.
